When I was fifteen I read Howl and Cavafy in the public library. At eighteen, just after going off to college, I had an affair with my favorite uncle, a celestial navigator and captain in the Merchant Marine. (He had wooed me as a child with exotic stories and gifts from Egypt and Japan.) I dropped out of college in 1970 and lived as a hippie and worked as a commercial fisherman and waiter. For thirty years I owned a restaurant and bakery with my first lover and then, after his death in 1991, with my husband. Now retired, we live in the Willamette Valley and at the Oregon coast. My hobbies are walking the dog, reading, and writing.
