A couple of days ago, a young girl from my hometown posted a pic of herself burning an American flag on Facebook. She claimed she was protesting all the things she thinks is wrong with the United States. I, as well as many people from our area, was completely shocked and disgusted by this. I'm all for standing up for what you believe in, but this is taking things way too far in my opinion. At one time, this was considered a crime and one could be charged up to $5,000 and possibly serve jail time. However, at some point the Supreme Court ruled it is no longer a punishable crime. Do you think a person should be able to protest by destroying the flag of their home country like this?
