I was browsing through my stories last night and noticed I had received a "thumb down" on every story I'd written with "Lesbian" listed as one of the genres. At first, I thought perhaps I'd somehow created a really unsatisfied reader, so I checked the list of lesbian stories. What I found is that every story in that genre except three have also received a thumb down. This is the first time I've checked all the stories in a particular genre and Noveltrove doesn't record when a vote is cast, so maybe some of those thumbs down date from earlier.
It is more than a little suspicious that nearly all have one and only one thumb down. It's not limited to beginning writers as you might expect. The writers in the top 40 list also have the same thumb down on every lesbian story they've written. In my experience, most readers will not vote down a story they didn't like. They'll just go on to another story.
So, be assured it's not that you write really bad lesbian stories. Most have several thumbs up and some positive comments. I didn't check each story, but none of mine and none of the ones I did check had any comment to explain the reason for the thumb down. Someone just decided to play games with us, I would suppose to stroke his or her ego a bit. To me, it's cowardly to cast a thumb down on a story and then not leave a reason for doing so.
It's sad though, that anyone would do that on a site where writers submit their work with no reward other than a positive vote here and there and maybe a comment.
